What each measure means
- New housing price index
- Statistics Canada table 18-10-0205-01. Tracks contractors’ selling prices of new homes of the same specifications over time. It is an index, not an average home price, and doesn’t cover resale homes.
- Housing starts
- CMHC Starts and Completions Survey. Homes where construction began, often shown as a seasonally adjusted annual rate.
- Units under construction
- CMHC. Homes started but not yet completed at the end of the period, a count rather than a rate.
